I’m feeling charged this week. Like ready for the world, let’s tear down walls, shake up some ish –Turbo. Charged!
I haven’t blogged in almost 3 months. I hold my head in shame. But! I have lots of fun things that I will be sharing with you very soon. I’m making up for lost time folks.
As an artist and business owner, I am always looking for opportunities to help build upon my craft and enhance the experience I provide to my clients.
Last week, I had the honor and pleasure of attending a private mentoring session with Danielle Finney, the creative dynamo behind DFinney Photography + Design. Danielle, affectionately known as “Danni”, is a DC based natural light photographer specializing in lifestyle portraits and headshots. One of the things I have always loved about Danni’s work is the consistency of her style and her gifted ability to really make her subjects pop in their photographs.
Danielle hosts multiple mentoring sessions across the country. This one was held in Atlanta, GA in the Inman Park area.
We had an action packed 2-days. The first day, we focused on some of the technical aspects of photography: location scouting, finding the best light for your client on-location, post-processing, etc.
Danni also brought in a model and provided ample time for us to practice some of what we learned.
The beautiful, Aeleise, our model for the day.
Day 2, we focused more on the business side of managing a photography studio. We delved into all the other aspects of our business including marketing and branding, pricing for our markets, and how to build a niche and grow our businesses. Oh yeah, photographers have to worry about all that stuff too -:)
As a bonus to our mentoring sessions, Danielle provided us all with complimentary professional headshots and on-site professional make-up. **Winning**
I’ll be honest, I was internally a nervous wreck about getting professional photos done. Most photographers, myself included, like to stay behind the camera – for a reason. But, as soon as I met Danni, I was immediately put to ease.
Besides the fact we have the same love for music and food <priorities right>, she has such a warm and colorful personality, it’s no wonder her clients look so natural and comfortable in all of her images.
For my Charlotte, NC friends; Danni just added Charlotte to her 2015 schedule, July 24-25. If you are looking to enhance your on-location sessions and strengthen the foundation of your business practices, I would highly recommend her workshops.
She also has a private Facebook group for all past attendees where you can receive ongoing support and mentoring from peers.
You can find out more information on her workshops under her Mentoring section on her website.
Danni – Thank you for sharing your insight and passion for photography. Last week was just the creative jolt I needed. Thanks for the friendly kick in the arse-:) I’m looking forward to an amazing 2015. Keep shining my Friend.
